First Remote Presence Surgical Telementoring in Idaho | |
|
On July 3rd, the Saint Alphonsus- West Valley Health Alliance became the first in Idaho to conduct a robotic surgical teaching session. Dr. Kent Kreuder used the RP-7 robot to train medical staff located outside the operating room. The staff, seated in a classroom, was able to see, hear and interact with him as he performed the laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure. The RP-7's ability to move around the room and zoom in on the patient allowed the staff to thoroughly view and learn from the surgery.
In the July 2007 issue of the Saint Alphonsus- West Valley Health Alliance Bulletin, Dr. Kreuder was quoted, "The RP-7 robot gave me a chance to really show off what the surgeons do and assist the nurses to understand their important role. I also feel that these learning sessions will give us a chance to work together in a setting that will hopefully lead to a more connected team."
This research and development project/program will be conducted by Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and is made possible by a grant that was awarded and administered by the U.S. Army Medical Research & Materiel Command (USAMRMC), under contract number: W81XWH-01-1-0604.
