Keeping you in touch with Remote Presence

24-7 Coverage for Patients at
The Methodist Hospital in Houston

Two RP-7® robots are helping physicians extend their reach at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. The technology is used in both the neurosurgical ICU and in the Eddy Scurlock Stroke Center, where doctors Saleem Zaidi and James Ling are able to check on their patients while they are away from the hospital.

Leading Medicine, a publication of The Methodist Hospital System, highlighted Remote Presence technology in its recent issue. The Methodist Hospital System is using the technology for part of patient safety and quality initiatives.

In the interview by Gale Smith, Dr. Saleem Zaidi stated, "The remote presence technology allowed me to see (my patient) and the ICU nurses and staff, and talk with them face to face. Ultimately, it impacts how we're able to provide quality treatment." Dr. Zaidi is using the RP-7 robot to check on patients in the neurosurgical intensive care unit in the hospital.

Dr. James Ling is using another RP-7, named MURDOC (Mobile Unit Robot Doctor), across the hospital in the Eddy Scurlock Stroke Center at the Methodist Neurological Institute. "This robotic technology gives us quicker access to the patients, and timeliness is everything in helping a stroke patient recover effectively," according to Ling.
