InTouch Health's RP-7 Telemedicine SolutionUsed in Children's Hospital of Los Angeles NICU Study |
|
Children's Hospital of Los Angeles recently published their findings of over 300 patient encounters, suggesting that utilizing a robotic telemedicine system in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a safe method of consultation for those patients. Due to the increase in preterm deliveries, there is a rise in demand for neonatologists across the country, many NICUs are evaluating alternatives for specialist consultation. Using telemedicine technology with "direct auditory and visual information" is hypothesized to be helpful in timely consultation and treatment of neonatology patients. By comparing onsite consultation and remote offsite consultation on consistent medical parameters, the researchers found that remote consultation is feasible for caring for neonates in the NICU. Furthermore, the study supports their hypothesis that use of remote telemedicine consultation would be useful in NICUs where round the clock coverage of a neonatologist is not available.
