Archives of Surgery Study Finds That Robot Does Not | |
|
A study published December 2007 in Archives of Surgery stated that physicians who remotely visit their patients via a robot "matched the performance" of traditional bedside check ups.
The study of 270 urology patients between traditional bedside rounds versus telerounding, found no difference in complications after surgery, hospital stays or patient satisfaction. Two-thirds of patients in the study said they would rather be seen by their own doctor remotely rather than a partner at the bedside. Dr. Louis Kavoussi, an author of the study and a New York Urologist, said that he often spends more time with patients when using the robot because he does not feel rushed.
