Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Kansas City, deployed five RP-7 Robots to allow their physicians to use Remote Presence to augment in-person hospital care. Doctors can beam onto a Robot in the ICU, ER
and patient wards to visit patients.
An online physician satisfaction survey was completed following Remote Presence sessions by Shawnee Mission physicians including intensivists, surgeons (general, ortho, cardiac) and cardiologists. Over 850 physican/patient interactions took place during 300 Robot sessions with the following results.
Physician Survey
Benefits of Remote Presence
• Robotic rounds enabled discharge orders 4+ hours earlier than in-person
visits, thereby freeing up hospital beds.
• "Off-hours" robotic visits were 3X more efficient than in-person visits.
• Physician response to the use of Remote Presence was very positive.
• Patients and nursing personnel both expressed high satisfaction.
